Sister Corita’s Fourth Annual Golf Outing
Raises Over $28,000 for Hunger Center
CLEVELAND – July 8 2019 – Sister Corita’s fourthannual golf outing at Ridge Top Golf Club in Medina raised over $28,000 and over 450 donated items for the food pantry in the Hunger center. This brings the four year total to over $87,135.
This year’s golf outing Major sponsor was sponsored by Catholic Charities Corporation. Gold Sponsors include: Boyd Watterson, the McNulty,Sonnhalter, Slosar, Ned Hyland and Tim Hyland families.
The golf outing was started in 2016 to offer an enjoyable day of golf that would provide assistance to benefit some of Cleveland’s most needy. Participants at the golf outing enjoyed golfing, lunch, dinner, raffles and prizes.
“I am so humbled by the generosity of our communities to help support the hunger center especially in the summer months when donations of food and money are typically down,” said Sister Corita Ambro, director of St. Augustine’s Hunger Center. “Thank you to all that donated and supported this fundraiser.”
The hunger center provides more than 250,000 meals a year throughout seven counties in northeast Ohio. Past events have raised more than $30,000 for the hunger center. All the proceeds from the golf outing go directly to St. Augustine’s Hunger Center. The Hunger Center is a response to the human need. Even though this is the most visible portion of its ministry there are many other facets to the outreach programs.
- Distributes furniture and appliances to needy families as available
- Hosts dinners for homeless and needy families at the time of a funeral
- Provides emergency funding for rent and utilities
- Provides advocacy and referrals to social services for job training, substance abuse problems and housing
- Support services include: pastoral care, counseling, religious education, PSR and interpreting
- Engages in many other services and community projects
St. Augustine Parish is led by the Rev. Joseph McNulty, the longest serving priest to this ministry within the diocese, with 48 years of service. Sister Corita Ambro, who has been the coordinator of services for the Disability Ministry (including the Deaf Ministry, for which she has been trained) for the past 49 years, is also involved in all aspects of the Hunger Center.
